Share Your Spillin' Photos
If you have some fun photos from past Spillin' of The Green Celebrations, and you want to share them, we would love to see them. Rather than sending them to us, create your own album on Picasa, Flickr, Photobucket etc... and send the address to WebMaster@spillin.com and we will create a link to your albums. If you would rather just send us the photos, email us at WebMaster@spillin.com, and we will figure out how to best share your photos. I have also created a Flickr Spillin' Public Group (see link in the Photo Links section on left side of page).
Lollipop Kid Announces Engagement
Breaking News - One of the original Lollipop Kids announces engagement. We haven't been able to track down a picture of the Bride to be yet to see if she is a colorful Munchkin as well or not.
The wedding will take place over the Memorial Day weekend in the popular Munchkin desert oasis of Scotsdale, Arizona. Congratulations Freddie and Jen!! Early reports have the new couples chances of making the 20th Anniversary of Spillin' as pretty slim as the wedding plans will be in full swing.
Iowa's Top Rated DJ - DJ Uncle Jim
Returning for his 19th appearance at Spillin', DJ Uncle Jim is Iowa's #1 rated DJ. In the past year he has played with huge names in the biz like: Cutmaster Swiff (DJ for Outkast), DJ Skribble (best known for his appearances on MTV's The Grind and Spring Breaks), Bad Boy Bill (consistently one of the top international House DJ's and featured on the Behind The Deck dvd's) and DJ 2nd Nature (#2 VJ in the world...search him on YouTube).
DJ Uncle Jim has entertained hundreds of thousands throughout his 32 years in the booth. Whether it is in a mega club or a quaint bar his show will rock the party. This will be his only appearance in NW Iowa this year. Spillin' with DJ Uncle Jim will be an aural assault on your senses.
Check out DJ Uncle Jim's Bio and rate him IowaNightLife.com.
Grab Your Beads and Your Boas for Spillin' Gras 2009.
The 19th edition of the largest mobile St. Patty's Day Party in the upper Midwes will take on the flavor of the Bayou. We are going to bring the colors of New Orleans and Mardi Gras to the parishes of Northwest Iowa and add the usual Irish Twist. We have contacted the Army Corp of Engineers, and although it's a little early to tell, it looks like there is a 0% chance of the 'Creek' overflowing it's banks and causing any flooding problems in the 9th Ward of Pocahontas. It should be quite a colorful celebration with a mixture of masks, beads, and boas in the traditional Mardi Gras colors: Purlpe (Justice), Gold (Power), and of course Green (Faith). Headquarters for the 2009 Spillin' of The Green tour will once again be Ike's Bar in the bustling heart of downtown Pocahontas. There will be two new stops on this year's tour. The first will be Laney's Corrall in Newell, and the second is The Watering Hole in Fonda.
We look forward to bringing the Spillin' Gras Parade to two more of Northwest Iowa's fine drinking establishments. The last leg of the tour will be the well known 'Break-In Bar' (aka Scotty's) in Palmer, where once again food will be available for purchase. For any first timers, taking in nourishment at this stop is key to making sure you are still on the dance floor when the lights go on at Ike's. .
Spotted Cow & Fat Squirrel to replace Barking Crow
Brewmasters Damon & Denise Daffron are taking what will hopefully be a short hiatus from producing their award winning Barking Crow Beer.
In its place, we will be keeping with the animal theme, and will be serving Spotted Cow & Fat Squirrel from the New Glarus Brewing Company in New Glarus, WI. Unforunately, this beer is currently only available in Wisconsin, so make sure you don't miss your chance to sample what could some day be a world wide favorite. New Glarus has had requests from as far away as France, Israel, and the Pacific Rim, but they have chosen to limit their market to the great beer drinking state of Wisconsin (not a bad choice if you are only going to sell in one state). We have decided to not let the cheeseheads keep this tasty brew to themselves, and will be serving two of their best, Spotted Cow, and Fat Squirrel. As usual, the schedule for the beer tasting is subject to change, but currently, it is set to run from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday afternoon at "The Garage" @ 304 4th Ave. N.W. in Pocahontas, IA. And yes, that is Friday the 13th, so if your superstitious, break out your lucky underwear. There should be the usual Corn Hole, Left Right Center (LRC), and some spirited Ping Pong, and maybe even some Wii Bowling, or the current party favorite, Rock Band.
Spillin' Flammabowl Championships Thursday Night
The fourth annual Spillin' of the Green Flammabowl Championships will be held Thursday night, March 12 at the Family Fun Zone in scenic downtown Pocahontas. Rich and Emily Levene, proprietors, are feverishly working to make sure the lanes are in perfect shape for the competition. They are especially concentrating on the approach areas, as they have been informed that Twinkle Toes Goldberg will be returning for another crack at the title. Rich says "when you take that many steps before releasing the ball, there are a lot of things that can go wrong if the approach is not in great shape."
"There is talk around town that people are going to be here to watch in hopes that ol'Twinkle Toes takes a header. As long as he doesn't bleed all over my lanes, I think it would be kind of funny". The webmaster for Spillin' just wanted to say that he admires ol' Twinkle Toes approach, and has modeled his own unique style from the same legenedary bowler, Freddie Flinstone. If you are in Pocahontas before Spillin', make sure to stop at the Family Fun Zone and say hi to Rich and Emily, and take a spin on the lanes. You don't want to be rusty going into the biggest competition of the year.
Barking Crow is Back for Spillin' 2008
Brewmaster Damon Daffron, and the president of Barking Crow Brewing Company, his wife Denise, will be returning to Spillin' this year with a new lineup of brews. The Barking Crow beer tasting event will take place on Friday March 14th at a yet to be determined location. The two have been diligently honing their brewing process over the last year, making significant investments in equipment, as well as significant time in perfecting their 'tasting' skills. This is more difficult for Damon, after losing most of his taste buds (and half his eyesight) while being raised on moonshine in the hills surrounding Chattanooga, TN. Denise was also reared in Chattanooga, but did not eat her Cheerios in a bowl of pure corn liquor, so the company relies on her for final approval of any new brews.
"We couldn't wait to get back to Pocahontas, IA for Spillin' this year" Denise said. "This event draws some of the best beer drinkers in the Midwest, so of course we were excited to come back and have them sample our latest three offerings. "And we know we are getting a fair assessment of our beer with the 2:30 PM starting time for the tasting, as most of them will only have been drinking for 3 or 4 hours at that point." The location for the tasting has not been chosen yet, but Damon said "I sure hope we do it at the same place as last year, that ping pong can really work up a guys thirst, and makes the beer taste that much better." Stay tuned for details on the location for this years tasting, but put Friday March 14th, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM on your schedule, and come enjoy some Barking Crow. Mark Smith Hoping for Dance Wars at Spillin' 2008
Last year, Mark Smith ordered his Spillin' costume from a cheesy internet website like the rest of us, but as soon as he heard the theme for this year's event, he went straight to The Men's Warehouse to be fitted for his custom made body hugging white polyester leisure suit. "I knew if I wantd a chance to beat DePietto in a dance off, I was going to need every advantage I could get" remarked Smith. "This suit is just the ticket for Stayin' Alive, I look good, I feel good, and thanks to Nike Dry Fit technology, I'll be smellin' like Royalty on Spillaturday Night" (Click on the picture for a better look at Mr. Smith in his new suit).
When talking to Mark's dance instructor, Marie Osmond, she expressed the only concern she has is keeping him away from tequila. "I think he has a real chance of bringing home the title, as long as we can keep him off the bottle. That Mexican devil spirit gets him every time" exclaimed former Dancing With The Stars contestant Osmond. Mark's girlfriend is also excited to see him perform. She says, "This will be the first time I've really seen him dance, other than the horizontal mambo." "I'm a little bit nervous about how good he looks in his new suit, and whether the ladies at Spillin' are going to be able to keep their hands off of him." "I really don't want to get into a cat fight, but I will if I have to." We at Spillin.com are on the edge of our seats as we wait for the Dance Wars to break out at "Spillaturday Night Fever". See you there!!.
