Spillaturday Night Fever
The largest mobile St. Patty's Day Party in the upper Midwest is fast approaching, and the theme for this year's festivities has been announced. Grab your disco balls, put on your bell bottoms, and comb your 'fros, we are headed back to the '70's, we're all going to catch "Spillaturday Night Fever". Bud DePietto can be seen here polishing up the moves that made him famous in in the Bronx. When asked how Bud was feeling, he replied "I was a little rusty the first time out, but it's just like riding a bike, although with my driving record, they won't let me do that anymore." In preparation for the big event, Bud has turned the basement of his Edin Prairie home into an exact replica of the dance floor seen in John Travolta's Saturday Night Fever. Spillin' Flammabowl Championships Thursday Night
The third annual Spillin' of the Green Flammabowl Championships will be held Thursday night, March 13 at the Family Fun Zone in scenic downtown Pocahontas. Rich and Emily Levene, proprietors, are feverishly working to make sure the lanes are in perfect shape for the competition. They are especially concentrating on the approach areas, as they have been informed that Twinkle Toes Goldberg will be returning for another crack at the title. Rich says "when you take that many steps before releasing the ball, there are a lot of things that can go wrong if the approach is not in great shape."
"There is talk around town that people are going to be here to watch in hopes that ol'Twinkle Toes takes a header. As long as he doesn't bleed all over my lanes, I think it would be kind of funny". The webmaster for Spillin' just wanted to say that he admires ol' Twinkle Toes approach, and has modeled his own unique style from the same legenedary bowler, Freddie Flinstone. If you are in Pocahontas before Spillin', make sure to stop at the Family Fun Zone and say hi to Rich and Emily, and take a spin on the lanes. You don't want to be rusty going into the biggest competition of the year.
Barking Crow is Back for Spillin' 2008
Brewmaster Damon Daffron, and the president of Barking Crow Brewing Company, his wife Denise, will be returning to Spillin' this year with a new lineup of brews. The Barking Crow beer tasting event will take place on Friday March 14th at a yet to be determined location. The two have been diligently honing their brewing process over the last year, making significant investments in equipment, as well as significant time in perfecting their 'tasting' skills. This is more difficult for Damon, after losing most of his taste buds (and half his eyesight) while being raised on moonshine in the hills surrounding Chattanooga, TN. Denise was also reared in Chattanooga, but did not eat her Cheerios in a bowl of pure corn liquor, so the company relies on her for final approval of any new brews.
"We couldn't wait to get back to Pocahontas, IA for Spillin' this year" Denise said. "This event draws some of the best beer drinkers in the Midwest, so of course we were excited to come back and have them sample our latest three offerings. "And we know we are getting a fair assessment of our beer with the 2:30 PM starting time for the tasting, as most of them will only have been drinking for 3 or 4 hours at that point." The location for the tasting has not been chosen yet, but Damon said "I sure hope we do it at the same place as last year, that ping pong can really work up a guys thirst, and makes the beer taste that much better." Stay tuned for details on the location for this years tasting, but put Friday March 14th, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM on your schedule, and come enjoy some Barking Crow. Mark Smith Hoping for Dance Wars at Spillin' 2008
Last year, Mark Smith ordered his Spillin' costume from a cheesy internet website like the rest of us, but as soon as he heard the theme for this year's event, he went straight to The Men's Warehouse to be fitted for his custom made body hugging white polyester leisure suit. "I knew if I wantd a chance to beat DePietto in a dance off, I was going to need every advantage I could get" remarked Smith. "This suit is just the ticket for Stayin' Alive, I look good, I feel good, and thanks to Nike Dry Fit technology, I'll be smellin' like Royalty on Spillaturday Night" (Click on the picture for a better look at Mr. Smith in his new suit).
When talking to Mark's dance instructor, Marie Osmond, she expressed the only concern she has is keeping him away from tequila. "I think he has a real chance of bringing home the title, as long as we can keep him off the bottle. That Mexican devil spirit gets him every time" exclaimed former Dancing With The Stars contestant Osmond. Mark's girlfriend is also excited to see him perform. She says, "This will be the first time I've really seen him dance, other than the horizontal mambo." "I'm a little bit nervous about how good he looks in his new suit, and whether the ladies at Spillin' are going to be able to keep their hands off of him." "I really don't want to get into a cat fight, but I will if I have to." We at Spillin.com are on the edge of our seats as we wait for the Dance Wars to break out at "Spillaturday Night Fever". See you there!!.
